Asia 2016 - Day 13 - To New Heights

Breakfast

Starting the day again with some coffee and sandwiches we not only found a place not far that serves excellent coffee but also has one seriously fancy toilet that I might show tomorrow.

Akihabara (again)

Since Ran had to return some products we went back to Akihabara for a short visit but left quite quickly.

Ueno

Next we went and visited Ueno park. A large garden that not only contains a zoo, several museums but also was one of the first parks to be created following a western park.

What's also interesting were the alley of food stands offering a diverse mixture of boiled, fried and grilled dishes.

We had skeweres, and Okonomiyaki, a kind of Japanese pizza or pancake with ever more rich.

It exists also a variant which is called Monjayaki which is more runny but more on that later.

Asakusa

We took the metro and arrived at Asakusa a more traditional quarter with the famous
Senso-ji buddhist temple.

Asakusa

The street really reflect the Tokyo of old with narrow alleys filled with people running around and shops trying to get you to buy their stuff.

We accidentally ran into a small sake tasting inside a muslim cafe which we only wanted to abuse for a short rest and a go to the loo. It really makes a difference to how the sake is stored. Chilled it remains much more spicy than stored at room temperature.

Last on our list of the day was the Tokyo Sky tree tower. The second highest tower is the world which sits on top of a complex that houses 7 floors of mall and an office building of yet another 31 floors. In Japan everything is simply bigger.

We did not book any tickets but went straight to the 4rth floor to purchase them and could go to the first observation deck at 350m immediately. Then we bought tickets at the observation deck to get even higher and walked in the spiraling tunnel outside of the tower to the hightest point.

Afterwards we got back to the 7th floor and ate the Monjayaki which we had difficulty to figure out to eat at first. You need to cut a piece of using your spate/spoon and turn it upside down while pressing it on the hot plate and then scoop it back up and eat it. Yummy!

I'll leave you with a picture of a Japanese monkey.I hope that you still enjoy the blog.
