Asia 2016 - Day 14 - To the future..
Breakfast
You should start your day with a nice breakfast as they say it is the most important meal of the day. Today was a rather improvised affair in front of a ministop, a chain of small supermarkets.

We supplemented that with a tasty custard filled pastry on our way to Daiba an artificial island in the Tokyo bay. Nothing represents the technology-obsessed Japanese spirit better than this place. It is linked via new metro-line that unlike most of the trains and metro runs on an elevated rail.
Odaiba
Although Tokyo is located on the island Odaiba and a sea-city we had not yet seen any beach until then.

In the background you can see the white rainbow bridge on which the metro-line runs and which connects the island to Tokyo. Arriving on the island feels indeed as though as if we had arrived in the future. It would not have surprised me to see people riding hoverboards around the street. Even the trucks looked different, granted that was the case all throughout Japan but I noticed it there more than anywhere else.
Not far from the beach promenade, a sign informed us that the island grounds are only 2.9m above sea level. That probably means no fun when Tsunamis and earth-quakes happen like 5 years ago.
There are a number of interesting malls around the island, some of them not only offering shopping opportunities but also a Lego Discovery Centers, cinemas and game arcades.
Gundam front
The DiverCity mall even has the Gundam Front, a plaza which holds a 1:1 statue of a robot from the long running Gundam TV-series. It is quite impressive to see this fantastic giant standing in front of the building. It is quite realistic in its details and waling between its legs you can only imagine how it leaps forward and walks away.

Sony ExploraScience
Another mall hold the Sony ExploraScience exhibition of new and interactive technologies. The exponents invite you to play and experience them but it is only one floor and I would only recommend them if you are in the mall anyways.
Waterfront with US flair
It seems that Tokyo is similar to Las Vegas in that it seems to try and replicate other famous landmarks. The Tokyo tower looks awfully similar to a red Eiffel tower and here on the water front we have a Hawaiian bar next to a smaller Statue of Liberty. Sitting on the terrace and listening to the Tikibar music, it does not feel like we are in Tokyo but rather The USA.

Shibuya / Genki Sushi
To finish the day we wanted to visit the Museum for Emerging Science and Innovation but it was already closed so went back to Shibuya and visit one of the (almost) fully roboticised Sushi restaurants Genki Sushi. You sit in front of a double row of rails where a constant stream of little Sushi train wagons swoosh along delivering tasty treats.

You can order three items at once and they are delivered on these little sleds. Once they arrive you take your plate and press the "Send back" button and the tray slides back into the kitchen for its next run.
That almost concluded our day bit I went as had a rest in the first floor of Starbucks while watching the neverending crowd of people crossing the famous crossroads. If you want to chill and enjoy the nice view especially in the evening then this is probably the bets spot. However you might need to fight over the limited amount of seats along the window.
PS: Internet is a bit abysmal here, that means no photos for now :(
